Soar Book 1 of the Empire Chronicles Alyssa Rose Ivy Books
I don't even know where to start. Should I start with the fact that most, and I mean most, if the story was pure dialogue? Hardly any descriptions? Lazy writing. Or this love triangle that made no freaking sense? She really liked this one guy who treated her great, but some 'hot' player shows up and she spends the rest of the book lusting after Boy 2 while simultaneously leading on Boy 1? Oh and by the way, Boy 2 gets her because some other character she met like once shows up and spreads BS about Boy 1 and she listens and flips out, jumping into Boy 2's pants and leaving Boy 1 in the dark. What crap. I skimmed the last 4th of the book.Tags : Amazon.com: Soar: Book 1 of the Empire Chronicles (9781493677368): Alyssa Rose Ivy: Books,Alyssa Rose Ivy,Soar: Book 1 of the Empire Chronicles,CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform,1493677365,Romance - Paranormal,FICTION Romance Paranormal General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Romance Paranormal,Romance,Romance - Paranormal - General
Soar Book 1 of the Empire Chronicles Alyssa Rose Ivy Books Reviews
Cliffhanger! You'll want to read the next book in the series soon after you finish the book.
Spoiler alert! I tend to write these for myself as a reminder to what the book was about. I don't have the world's greatest memory for books or movies.
Casey dropped out of her freshman year of college to help her parents. Her father had lost his job so she decided to get a job to get independent status for student loans. She got a job as as a barista at Coffee Heaven. She kind of had a crush on one of her daily customers. She never made it obvious to him because he was always so depressed, he seemed to be heartbroken.
She went to a friend's party and Toby was there. He asked her out to her surprise. Everything was fine until it all went crazy...
Then she met Jared.
I liked the book. I read it pretty fast. A lot faster than I normally do. Like all the rest of the author's books, I really enjoyed it. I liked that twist at the end. It was very unexpected. I'm going to start the next book soon since that was quite the cliffhanger.
I was excited to start The Empire Chronicles trilogy by Alyssa Rose Ivy. It is an extension of the story and characters initially introduced by her in The Crescent Chronicles trilogy, and I really enjoyed the subject matter, characters, plot development and writing style represented. I am happy to say that I found Soar to be just as enjoyable. Alyssa has quickly become one of my favorite Young / New Adult writers.
***(SPOILER ALERT)***
While Crescent Chronicles focused on Levi and Allie’s journey to find themselves and each other, The Empire Chronicles pick up a few months after the conclusion of Found (The Crescent Chronicles #3). Toby is running the New York area for The Society, meaning he works directly for Levi, the king. It just so happens that Levi is also the Pteron to whom Toby lost his first love, Allie.
Toby works now. It is about all that he does. His only indulgence is his daily visit to Coffee Heaven for coffee and a smile from Casey, the barista who provides a little light in an otherwise dreary life. When he gets the opportunity to ask her out, he realizes that he has found someone to need again. Casey seems just as taken with him, and they develop real chemistry. Before long though, Jared arrives in New York on official Society business and decides he is interested in Casey as well.
At about this time, Casey gets a rather rude awakening into the paranormal world around her. She learns about Pterons like Toby, Jared and Levi. It is discovered that Vera, Casey’s missing sister, had been dating a guy from a Bear clan. It seems that all supernatural hell is breaking loose, and Casey wonders if Vera’s disappearance as well as an attempt to abduct Casey herself might be related to it all.
Though much is made of the love triangle, growing threats to the very fabric of The Society and an unknown as yet threat to Casey, I feel that each of these plot devices expose what it means to be fragile. They show what it is to find what gives you strength. Toby is fragile, but the hope that he keeps alive for a future with Casey gives him strength. Casey is fragile, but the feelings of love, security and acceptance she gets give her the strength to face the new world and her new place in it. Even Jered is in a fragile place in his life, which he no longer finds fulfilling. He finds strength in knowing he actually has it within him to truly care about someone else… a woman… for more than a one-night stand. Finally, The Society foundation is fragile because Levi is young and inexperienced in his leadership role. Also, there is major descension brewing within the hierarchy of The Society the likes of which none of the royals or their inner circle are aware. So far, it is the bond between Levi and those loyal to him that provides a much needed boost to a king under pressure.
I truly liked this book very much. It is definitely written for a more mature reader… I would say over 17 yoa. I would highly recommend to readers of appropriate age who enjoy paranormal fantasy fiction involving characters who are college-age and older.
I’ve had Soar on my shelf for a while but never seemed to get around to it yet. With the upcoming release of Storm it was the perfect time to get current. Casey is taking a break from school hoping to get her schooling figured out so she can start back up next year. Working full time at a coffee shop just down the street from where she lives with her cousin. What should be a routine trip out to the trash turns quickly wrong when she encounters a massive wolf but before the wolf can attack her a man with wings swoops in saving her from the attack. Toby is in charge of the Supernatural Society of New York after he took over for his grandfather. He’s got his own issues like dealing with the fact his ex-girlfriend is engaged to the King of the Society.
With the increase in attacks Toby needs to figure out why the wolves and bear shifters are threating the society but he won’t have to do it alone. The king has sent in Jared to investigate and see what is going on with New York. Toby has finally asked Casey out for a date and the couple have only had a few when Jared decides that he also wants Casey after just a chance meeting. As if they danger isn’t heating up the shifters are after Casey but no one knows why but they do have her sister. Will Casey see her sister again? Will she choose Jared or Toby?
I like Casey she’s a down to earth kind of girl and exactly what I’ve come to love when it comes to Alyssa Rose Ivy characters. I did have a few moments when I wanted to smack her and in my head I was screaming at her to stop. I loved Toby for Casey he’s exactly what she needs and he is exactly what she needs even though she doesn’t know it yet. I want to dislike Jared but he’s such a good guy and kind of hard to. I hate love triangles because someone always ends up hurt. Fingers crossed this one fixes it self in the next book.
I’m so torn I want to say I love Soar but this love triangle has me down. I know in true Alyssa Rose Ivy fashion that it will all work out in the series but I still hate seeing one of them hurt. So besides that love triangle hang up I’m struggling to get over the story is great. I’ve really enjoyed all the spins off The Crescent Chronicles because I love Allie and Levi so seeing them pop up in Soar is awesome. I liked the character even when I shouldn’t have I liked the characters. I did get a little tease of Owen pre Allure Chronicles which I am enjoying. I connected with all three of the characters as we are told the story from each of them. Soar is another beautifully written story with a cliffhanger that will leave you scrambling for the next book. The author does an amazing job creating a truly captivating novel that captures the heart as well as the imagination. I know I can’t wait to start the next one it’s already on my kindle. I can’t wait to see how it plays out in this love triangle that I am still stuck on.
What crap. I skimmed the last 4th of the book.
