The French Promise edition by Fiona McIntosh Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Exciting sequel to The Lavender Keeper. I read these two books while travelling in France. I stayed kilometres from the town the main character came from and visited many of the places he visited. It brought that part of french history to life, while weaving a really exciting story. The sequel was just as good. Being from Australia, I loved the Australian tie-ins. I just wish there was a third book in the series!
the second instalment to a fantastic book (make sure you read the first one for optimum understanding) this sequel is the perfect counterpart to The Lavender Keeper. Whilst the first novel was about love and opportunities, this book is about healing and redemption. all characters are amazing, the plot is tight, the historical settings beautifully realised.
A good sequel to the Lavender Keeper. An interesting story, well written and kept me guessing till the end. I have enjoyed all of Fiona McIntosh books and will certainly look for more books by this Author.
Lots of raw moments in this book with emotions running high when death occurs to loved characters and villains. Nazi wartime criminal acts are vivid as are the french resistance plots. Great reading.
I thought this novel was superb. I read it immediately after reading The Lavender Keeper, the first book of this two- part novel. I so enjoyed The Lavender Keeper that I hesitated before starting The French Promise, as I find that sequels are more often than not a bit of a let down. Not this time, both books will appeal to lovers of World War Two fiction, and France, I found the depiction of post war Tasmania absorbing and informative.
I can really recommend both of these novels, and for greater enjoyment read them in sequence,
I am a Fan of post WW2 novels and this one doesn't disappoint. It is love story, a family that grows and endures tragedy, a fathers love for his daughter, and a need for revenge for the obscene events that the Nazis inflicted on a Jewish family. I liked that there was a Herman soldier who also despised what the Nazis were dishing out. The story takes you from the UK to Australia and the island of Tasmania then back to Europe and Provence . When the Lavender fields are described you can visualise the fields and the perfume emanating from the blooms. The side stories that weave the characters together are interesting and also take you to the senseless tragedies of war. I loved this book and fully recommend it.
This book follows The Lavender Keeper and is well written and surprising with its real life sad scenarios. However, the author allows the human spirit to survive Intact and eventually move on to a real life resolution. I would have given it 5 stars if I had not felt like the ending was rather rushed by the author. Even with that small bit of criticism, I would recommend it if for nothing more than to read about the effects of war on people, their families and their lives. I enjoyed this book and wish there was another. The main character, Luc, is a charismatic, dependable, stand-by-your-principles kind of man. We need more Lucs in the world.
